What is Wine Tourism Day?
Consumers have a choice on where to spend their vacation dollars and precious time. The wine tourism industry competes not just with Hawaii and Disneyland for travel plans but with movie theaters, sports, or simply staying at home when it comes to what local consumers do with their Saturday afternoon. On Wine Tourism Day, wineries, hotels, restaurants, tour operators, and other wine tourism businesses across North America and beyond work together to raise the profile of wine tourism by offering special events to the public to highlight our industry. The third annual Wine Tourism Day will take place November 7, 2015.
How Can Wine Associations, DMOs, CVBs Participate?
You can participate by rallying your local wineries and wine-related businesses to host a local event, whether that be a special wine tasting, wine pairing lunch or dinner, musical event, or party. Logos and links of wine associations and DMOs that agree to support Wine Tourism Day efforts will be placed on the Partners page of WineTourismDay.org. If you would like to participate as a Partner, please email Beth Peluse (beth at zephyr adventures dot com). Read about the Finger Lakes Region past success and the exposure they received by participating in Wine Tourism Day.
Giving Back to the Community
For this year’s Wine Tourism Day, we urge you to give back to our communities by encouraging your members or constituents to donate all (or a portion) of that day’s earnings to a local charity of your choice. For example, wineries in your region could donate all of their tasting room fees on November 12th to a local non-profit. Not only will this help to build communities, but it will increase your opportunity for local publicity and we will publish a national total of donations that could elevate the status of Wine Tourism Day.
Still on the fence? Check out our reasons on why you should participate.
